This was the third of three orchids named for Mrs. Amy Ede, daughter of John Laycock; herself a former Progressive Party municipal councillor, she became joint proprietor (with husband John Ede) of Singapore Orchids Pte Ltd at Mandai Garden and leading pioneer in her own right, noted for the strength of her convictions and business acumen. Although Mandai registered the cross, this primary hybrid was the handiwork of an immensely talented Mrs. Gracia Lewis, a family friend and yet another leading lady of the Singapore orchid pioneer generation.
