History Aranthera Mohamed Haniff (Arachnis hookeriana x Renanthera coccinea) (Singapore Botanic Gardens, 1937) is the first aranthera (and fourth vandaceous intergeneric) to be hybridised. Its originator R.E. Holttum was then Director of the Botanic Gardens, Singapore, and it is named for an Assistant Curator of the Gardens who was also overseer of Penang's Waterfall Gardens and collector of the pollen parent for this cross.
