Aranda Nancy (Arach. hookeriana x V. dearei) (John Laycock, 1945) is an early vandaceous intergeneric of Singaporean origin that produces fragrant star-shaped blooms of creamy gold. [Emrys Chew 2017-03-27]

History It survived an unexpectedly long gestation. Even though the seed had been sown in 1934 and the maiden bloom appeared in 1939, the Pacific War intervened. The originator sought refuge in British India while his hybrid seedlings were raised at the Singapore Botanic Gardens during the Japanese Occupation (1942-45), where scientific research was permitted. When peace finally returned, Laycock named this hybrid for one of his daughters. [Emrys Chew 2017-03-24]
